Rapid Asthma Kit (Rapid EDN Kit) by Immunochromatography

Reference #:

2002-148

Inventors/Contributors

Hirohito Kita, M.D., James L. Checkel, Gerald J. Gleich, M.D., Chang K. Kim, M.D., Ph.D., David A. Loegering, Diane L. Squillace

Description

No commercial rapid diagnostic kits for asthma and allergic diseases are currently available. We are developing a diagnostic kit, which is designed for use in physicians' office and patients' home. The principle of the kit is based on the fact that the concentrations of eosinophil granule proteins, such as eosinophil-derived neurotoxin (EDN), is highly elevated in airway secretions from patients with asthma and allergic diseases, but not from normal individuals. The eosinophil granule proteins can be detected conveniently by immunochromatography. Mayo Clinic has developed antibodies to detect EDN.
