Measurement of Circulating DHEA Levels for the Determination of Histological Severity of Non-alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease

Reference #:

2005-315

Inventors/Contributors

Michael R. Charlton, M.D.

Description

The severity of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) can be determined with a high degree of accuracy using a simple model, incorporating measurement of circulating levels of the hormone dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA). This model provides novel evidence for relative DHEA deficiency in patients with more severe NAFLD.
