Rate Adaptive Algorithm for Termination of Artial Fibrillation with High Frequency Burst Pacing

Reference #:

2000-074

Inventors/Contributors

Paul A. Friedman M.D.

Description

Current implantable defibrillators attempt to terminate atrial fibrillation painlessly by utilizing 50 Hz high frequency burst pacing. The success rate is low, likely because the pacing rate is not individualized to the specific episode, and does not gradually increase the pacing rate. The new algorithm may significantly increase the efficacy of this important therapy.
