Description
Inspired by the contoured shape of a satellite dish, the Pressure Ulcer Prevention bed matches the natural curves of the body while utilizing a pivoting support device that slowly rotates the center of gravity of the patient. This is achieved through a computer aided gear-driven multi-axis point of support under the center of the curved bed surface. Imagine a pad of butter in the center of a curved frying pan. Then, imagine gently rotating and tilting the pan to spread the butter around its surface in an ever widening circle. In a similar way the motorized drive quietly and smoothly tilts (it does not spin) on a 360-degree pivoting axis making one full cycle each hour throughout the day and night. The weight of the patient is shifted away from and around the normally vulnerable area and is distributed throughout a much wider area (approximately 400% more) using a maximum tilt of 15 degrees.
