Measurement of Shear Modulus

Reference #:

2001-129

Inventors/Contributors

James F. Greenleaf, Ph.D., Mostafa Fatemi, Ph.D., Shigao Chen

Description

A new method is proposed to measure the shear elasticity and shear viscosity at an optically clear material. Radiation force generated by ultrasound is used to vibrate a sphere in the material. The vibration of the sphere is detected and used to determine the shear elasticity and viscosity of the material.
