Description

Tansgenic mouse that over-expresses the human alpha-synuclein gene, under the control of its endogenous human promoter and regulatory elements. Genomic multiplication of the SNCA locus in humans, that leads to three or four copies of the gene (rather than the normal diploid copy number) result in Parkinson's disease with subsequent dementia, with post-mortem transitional or diffuse Lewy body pathology.
