Description
Researchers utilize a murine model of multiple sclerosis induced by Theiler's virus to test the effect of interleukin-6 on central nerous system demyelination. Administration of human recombinant interleukin-6 dramatically reduced demyelination and inflammation in the spinal cord of susceptible SJL mice. These studies in an animal model of multiple sclerosis suggest that this interleukin may have application for the treatment of human multiple sclerosis.
