Reference #:

1997-126

Inventors/Contributors

Elliott Richelson M.D., Abdul H. Fauq Ph.D., Bernadette M. Cusack, Beth M. McMahon Ph.D., Daniel J. McCormick Ph.D., Yuan-Ping Pang Ph.D., Mona M. Boules Ph.D.

Description

L- and D-Neo-Tryptophan are unnatural amino acids that could be substituted for L- and D- isomers of the aromatic amino acid residues tryptophan, tyrosine, and phenylalanine. Neo-tryptophan-containing peptides may have novel characteristics including: increased biologic activity increased resistance to protease increased blood-brain-barrier permeability increased receptor binding affinity. Researchers have identified peptides that are therapeutic camdidates for the treatment of schizophrenia and other diseases.
