Probiotic Mix of Bacteria and Yeast

Description

The Mayo Clinic is developing and testing a synbiotic (composition of synergistic probiotic organisms and a prebiotic) for clinical indications (Croh'n's, IBD, immunocompromised patients, patients undrgoing chemo or radiation therapy, patients infected with antibiotic resistant organisms. THe synbiotic has proven to be very effective in several animal trials including animals that were challenged with lethal doses of pathogenic organisms (e. coli, salmonella, VRE etc.). An initial human trial at the Mayo Clinic testing safety and efficacy of the synbiotic was successful. A second human trial of the synbiotic testing Travelers Diarrhea through Mayo's Travel Clinic is well underway with over 100 subjects traveling to areas where GI problems are common are enrolled to date.
