Abeta42 Lowering Agents that Inhibit Abeta Aggregation

Description

Aggregation of Abeta42 is proposed to cause Alzheimers disease. Lowering Abeta42 production and preventing its aggregation are prime therapeutic targets. Described are novel compounds that lower Abeta42 by altering gamma-secretases cleavage and inhibit Abeta aggregation. These compounds thus inhibit Abeta accumulation in two ways: indirectly by lowering Abeta42 levels and directly by binding Abeta and inhibiting its aggregation. Methods for identifying such compounds are disclosed as well indications for treatment and prevention of Alzheimer's disease. Three novel classes of compounds are disclsoed, acid polyphenol,
