Selective and Irreversible Inhibitors of Insect AChEs for Pest Control: a New-Generation of Human-Safe and Effective Pesticides

Reference #:

2007-077

Inventors/Contributors

Yuan-Ping Pang, Ph.D.

Description

This invention relates to invertebrate and insect-specific acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibitors, as well as methods for identifying the same using a 3D model of the Anopheles gambiae AChE enzyme. The pesticides and insecticides disclosed here target conserved AChE sites found specifically in invertebrates, such as mosquito. Thus, they can selectively kill insects, control insect-borne diseases, and limit or stop crop damage mediated by insects, without being toxic to mammals.
